Closing Guantánamo

While President Obama has made closing the prison at Guantánamo Bay one of his top priorities since his inauguration, we have not been very successful at gathering human intelligence on the war on terror.

It seems that the only tool we are using is the drone strike. This results in a dead terrorist or two, not to mention the deaths of many civilians. This results in no intelligence gathered and a local populace that turns against the U.S.

Many pieces of critical information were gained from interrogating the prisoners at Gitmo. We were able to track down Osama bin Laden from information gleaned from prisoners held at Gitmo.

It appears that Obama’s intention to close Gitmo means that he is not interested in human intelligence.
