Walk to school
I couldn’t agree more with letter writer Dick Masington’s regarding alternative means to getting our kids to school.
I walk or ride my 10-year-old daughter to school most days of the week.
I am fortunate to live one mile away and in a nice neighborhood.
While I realize not everyone is in the same situation, many are.
The 20-minute walk is one of my day’s highlights. The one-on-one time is invaluable.
People unanimously think it’s wonderful, but none seems to incorporate it into their routine.
When my daughter rides, her bike is usually the only one there.
The benefits are numerous: bonding with my child, exercise, fewer cars on the street.
I urge other parents to think about this for their kids.
