Voters ignored
Concerns of the week, such as politicians elaborating on their abilities and lack of same in their rivals, speeches on the state of the union and the state of Florida, Iran, bombings, ISIS, the lottery and traffic in Miami, aren’t bothering me.
Perhaps there has been too much attention on these, so that I finally am immune to their shocks. I have become deaf to their attack and want to ignore them.
What grabbed my attention was Carl Hiaasen’s Jan. 17 column, Polluters win again in the state Legislature, about our water. Once again, the Florida Legislature has continued to ignore, distort and neglect the essential care of Florida’s water resources and the Everglades.
We voters approved Amendment 1, but last year, out of a potential $300 million, only $17 million was given to various environmental projects. In other words, our vote was ignored. Obviously, most legislators followed another course with the funds, the money being useful for their personalized interests.
