End Adjustment Act
U.S. Rep. Carlos Curbelo’s attempt to amend the Cuban Adjustment Act to rid it of its abuses is inherently flawed.
The CAA is, and has been, a distortion of our immigration law since its first day. If there ever was a justification for it, it long ago died, decades before President Obama or Sen. Marco Rubio were even senators.
The act created a sense of entitlement for too many in Havana and Miami, and that would continue even with Curbelo’s or Rubio’s approach.
Rubio seems only now to recognize that most are not political, but economic, migrants. The abuses that Curbelo wants to treat are bad icing atop a cake no one else can eat. Even wet foot/dry foot does not apply to the mini-Mariel at the Mexican border.
There’s only one cure: Repeal the CAA.
