Old courthouse
Congratulations to Commissioner Sally Heyman for her leadership on replacing the Miami-Dade courthouse (Forget the repairs, Miami-Dade needs a new courthouse, Opinion, Jan. 5).
No matter how many millions of taxpayer dollars are poured into the existing courthouse, it remains an antiquated and inadequate structure.
If the preservationists insist, artistic elements such as the ceiling art, elevator doors and all of Courtroom 4 can be reinstalled in a modern and functional replacement.
One has only to visit the new Children’s Courthouse just north of the Government Center Station to see how 21st-century architecture and construction practices have provided a modern and functional government building.
I’m looking forward to the implosion of the old courthouse.
Peter L. Forrest,
Miami
