Sports vs. academics

Recent sports stories in the Miami Herald revealed that ex-San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh had accepted a $48 million, six-year contract from the University of Michigan.

As a state school, Michaigan has been subject to continued funding cutbacks, increased class sizes and increases in tuition, yet they have $48 million for a football coach?

What does this say about us as a society? What is more important: sports or academics?

At the University of Michigan, it appears that it is sports.
