Boxing isn’t best
Barry Jackson is one of my favorite sportswriters. However, I take great issue with his Jan. 1 column, The best, worst and notable in 2015, in which he considers NBC and CBS bringing back free boxing matches to TV as one of the best moves for viewers.
Has he missed the whole point of the terrible consequences of repeated blows to the head?
Only because of intense pressure, the NFL has taken steps to protect its players from life-threatening head injuries.
We owe the same respect and care to boxers. This is not the Roman Empire, where gladiators went to face death.
