A little more equal

Re the Dec. 31 story on how Marco Rubio helped his brother-in-law, an ex-felon, get a real-estate license: Orlando Cicilia, Rubio’s brother-in-law, has apparently been able to do quite well in the real-estate business after his incarceration for drug-related crimes. How come he was able to obtain a licensing after such a major conviction and incarceration?

We know of many decent licensed real-estate professionals who’ve had their licenses suspended or taken away permanently, for lesser offenses, some of which did not lead to imprisonment. Rubio was quick to use his position to get Cicilia a license approved within 20 months of his leaving prison.

George Orwell had it right: All men are equal, but some are more equal than others.
