No smiles for orca

I appreciate the coverage Miami Herald brings every single day, but I felt sick Christmas morning as I read Season of Smiles in my Neighbors section.

For more than four decades, Miami has been the host of something horrible. Miami Seaquarium is holding a 6,000-pound orca whale in a concrete prison that is too small, without shade. It is forced to perform silly stunts.

This is nothing to smile about in any season.

My hope for 2015 is that Miami residents and visitors alike become aware and not support this cruelty. A good place to start is by watching the Oscar nominated film Blackfish and, of course, watching these beautiful creatures in the wild ,not in an artificial holding cell.
