Exploring Hanukkah

Thank you for the Dec. 6 article Eight things to know about Hanukkah.

After living in Miami Beach all my life, I am glad to have a better understanding of the meaning and traditions related to Hanukkah. For example, I did not know that the Hanukkah and Christmas celebrations occurred close to the same time, 2,000 years ago or that the dates of Hanukkah are determined by the lunar calendar.

Now when I wish friends a Happy Hanukkah, I may caution them to not eat too many latkes and sufganiyot!
