Fear and division

I’m exasperated by the media’s hypocrisy. The sanctimonious handwringing over Donald Trump’s outlandish pronouncements is nauseating.

The media know that the modus operandi of the Republican Party, at least since the days of Barry Goldwater, has been to stoke fear and to create division: from Ronald Reagan’s mythical “welfare queen” to the shameful conduct of the midterms of 2002 where a double amputee and veteran, Max Cleland, was portrayed as cozying up to a foreign dictator; not to mention the “swift boating” of John Kerry who fought for this country.

The modern Republican Party is the province of the least attractive of this wonderful place called The United States of America. Has been for decades. Donald Trump is being less tactful than others, but he is no outlier. He represents mainstream Republican thought. It is time to admit that fact.
