Women in combat

Kathleen Parker’s Dec. 8 diatribe, The few, the foolish, against women’s equality in the military ignores the fact that there is little hand-to-hand combat in modern warfare.

A friend who is a former Marine — and rather short — once told me: “God makes big men and God makes little men, and Smith and Wesson makes the difference.”

Women have an equal right to prove their valor and competence and to advance accordingly.
