Fund schools

In her Dec. letter, To teach, teachers need supplies, state Senator Anitere Flores bemoans the fact that teachers in Miami-Dade County have to pay for school supplies out of their own pockets. Flores encourages everyone to donate to a nonprofit organization that helps reimburse teachers.

However, the Herald has reported that the state budget has a large surplus, but Rick Scott wants to use it for a billion-dollar tax cut for corporations. We should use our tax dollars to directly support the education of our children, instead of relying on philanthropy.
