When the GOP refused to repudiate the ugly birther movement spearheaded by Donald Trump, it engendered such a loathing for all things Republican among moderate centrist swing voters, that it cost Mitt Romney the presidency.
Yet here they are again, refusing to reject the vile rhetoric coming from Trump’s mouth. The GOP wants to connect with the people who are fed up with the lack of integrity in D.C. politics. And, supposedly, Trump appeals to them because he’s genuine. He’s genuine only in his language of bigotry, hate and division.
If the GOP wants to establish itself as the party of integrity, it would do well to cut all ties with Trump.
