Plaza Health story

The Nov. 29 story, Plaza Health Network repeatedly cited for nursing home violations, picked up by the Miami Herald from FloridaBulldog.org, unfairly tarnishes the longstanding reputation that our nursing and rehabilitation centers have for providing some of the best rehabilitation and skilled nursing care in South Florida.

Five of the seven Plaza Health Network centers maintain either a five-star or four-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ five-star quality rating system.

Not only did the story omit this important information, it was conveyed to readers that Plaza Health Network isn’t a quality care provider. That is just not true.

The quality of our care has been validated by third-party monitoring organizations and, more important, by many thousands of appreciative elderly patients, their families and their referring medical providers.

We know of no nursing home in this country that hasn’t been cited with areas for improvement by monitoring agencies, and we invite fair comparisons with industry norms.

Ronald S. Lowy, chairman of the board, Plaza Health Network, Miami
