In response to letter writer Glenda Whatley’s Dec. 2 letter, she accuses President Obama of vetoing a defense authorization bill that would have allowed service dogs to return to America from Afghanistan and Iraq.
In truth, in October, the president vetoed a House Defense authorization bill for many reasons, the obvious reason being that the bill was bloated with unneeded and wasteful programs. The House never attempted to override his justified veto.
In November, Congress passed, and Obama signed, a defense authorization bill for 2016. According to the Military Times, the new bill will “make it easier for former handlers and families of injured handlers to adopt service dogs following their military service.”
