Condemn rights abuses

During this holiday season, I hope Americans will reflect on, and demand action from Congress and President Obama, to reduce the abuses of human rights in various countries.

For example, in Venezuela the Maduro government continues to imprison political opponents without due process. As most people in South Florida are aware, the Cuban government continues to arrest and harass the small but growing political opposition.

In communist China, the government puts thousands in political prisons. They are also used as slave labor under awful conditions. Many young people who participated in the recent democracy movement in Hong Kong were locked up. Throughout the Middle East, Christians are murdered, churches burned.

I hope Obama will reverse the administration’s current direction, strongly condemn human-rights abuses and support Congressional action.
