Littered road
As a longtime resident of South Florida, I am familiar with the idea of putting on a great show when tourists come to visit. Sadly, that didn’t happen in Miami-Dade County recently during the Ford Championship Weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
The Speedway put on a stellar show. The real shame was on the road that winds its way down Southwest 107th Avenue through the palm tree farms and the easternmost reaches of Homestead Air National Guard Base.
This road is traveled by team members and sponsors of some of the biggest names in racing and American business. Unfortunately, they were treated to an assortment of abandoned boats, refrigerators, sofas, chairs, televisions and the odd family room console set littering the road.
It could have been the perfect introduction to a truly great weekend. Of course, nothing says welcome to Miami better than old discarded furniture and other large items. Apparently, the road is rarely traveled by county officials.
