Admit refugees

I was dismayed when I saw the results for the Nov. 22 Daily Q, where 65 percent said that President Obama should not veto any legislation restricting the admittance of Syrian refugees. Surely, America and South Florida are better than that.

The Defense Department has closed many functional, but unnecessary military bases. Some of them could be reopened and meet important needs: Desperate refugees could be cared for; basic English and job skills could be provided; and the refugees could be segregated from American society until they are properly vetted. With a rational approach, we could meet humanity and security needs.

When we refuse to shelter refugees we are surrendering our very humanity to the terrorists. If that happens, let’s just take Lady Liberty down from her pedestal and ship her back to France, from whence she came.
