Wounded Paris

I wanted to thank you for publishing the beautiful column Leonard Pitts wrote on Nov. 19 about Paris, A dark moment in the City of Light. Somehow he always seems to be able to put into words what I am thinking and feeling. I still have the column he wrote right after the attacks on Sept. 11.

I was in Paris celebrating a milestone birthday with family last week. We were having dinner on Friday about a mile from the restaurants that suffered the drive-by shootings. I had a helpless feeling of wanting to do or say something that would make a difference. I don’t understand this violence.

Paris has a very special place in my heart as I’ve always felt that it was magical. I’ve been there multiple times over the years. and would go back tomorrow if I could. I felt like the city itself was wounded.

I know Paris will return to normal at some point. I just hope that it will not be a “new normal” where things like this become common-place.
