Letters to the Editor

Wynwood is unique

Although Wynwood is a long drive for my husband and I, we spend a lot of Sundays there. We love the art walls, the gritty streets, the sense of uniqueness, the solely owned galleries, shops and boutiques and some really great bars and restaurants.

We are way beyond the average age of the locals, but are always warmly greeted and have met a lot of nice people there. The last time we were there, sitting around with some younger people, I asked the question, “How long do you think it will be?” and they all knew what I meant. How long before this groovy place will become another mall, complete loss of identity, same as everywhere else kind of place?

It’s happened to all the previously unique places in Miami: Coconut Grove, Brickell, Midtown, South Miami, Lincoln Road. Same corporate stores and same corporate restaurants. Somehow the idea of an arts district in Miami loses its definition within a very short time and just becomes another concrete mall.
