Harmful fracking

To refute the Nov. 5 letter, Support fracking, Floridians should first determine why other countries — among them Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Bulgaria, France, Switzerland and others — are banning the practice of fracking to drill for oil and natural gas.

Unfortunately, the secret molecular components of fluid used in fracking is proprietary although benzene, a known carcinogen, is one of the substances.

Some countries and several of our states are concerned about the number of earthquakes which have coincidentally increased with the advent of fracking.

State Rep. Jose Rodriguez and Sen. Jeremy Ring are correct in seeking legislation that protects us from cumulative effects, potential harm, and safeguards our precious drinking water and air quality.
