Obama took charge

So House Speaker Paul Ryan, chief among the leaders of the “do-nothing” Congress for the last six years, the least productive congressional sessions in modern history, announced on national television Sunday that he intends to continue to sit on his hands regarding critical comprehensive immigration reform.

Why? Because he is pouting about the fact that President Obama showed courageous leadership in responding to the immigration crisis. Why did Obama use his executive powers? Because then-Speaker John Boehner, in collaboration with the Republican leadership, including Ryan, refused to let the House vote on the Senate’s comprehensive immigration-reform bill.

Reliable polling at the time indicated that the House would have passed the Senate bill had it been allowed to vote on it.
