Higher-ed ‘tragedy’
Re the Oct. 31 article For-profit college tumbles amid scrutiny: Once again it appears that another for-profit school is out of business — and with good reason. Because of the Miami Herald’s excellent investigative reporting the true nature of this so-called educational institution has been exposed, as well as its ties to certain politicians and an inept State Board of Education.
The only ones profiting from this school were the founder, administrators and their political cronies. The losers were students who thought they were receiving a quality education. They have discovered that their degrees are almost worthless since the majority of them cannot pass national and state exams required to be licensed in their areas of study. In addition, many students are burdened with exorbitant loans to pay back at a time when they cannot find employment.
Let’s hope that this tragedy will create an atmosphere of greater oversight of these institutions.
