Loss of a ‘nice man’
Joseph Hernandez, our colleague and friend, has passed away. He was a Miami-Dade County school psychologist as well as a professor at Barry University, and his commentaries on educational issues often appeared in the Miami Herald’s Editorial section.
He tackled controversial education rulings and decisions that affected students and teachers. Always motivated by a sense of fairness and justice, he was not afraid to speak his mind.
What I will remember most about Joe was his kind and gentle spirit. Rather than belittle his colleagues, he praised them. Instead of turning his back on others’ problems, he listened. And rather than seeking the spotlight, he was willing to help other shine. Simply put, Joseph was a nice man.
His kindness will be sorely missed. My deepest condolences go out to his family and his friends, and may his soul rest forever in peace.
