Guantánamo nurse

I read the Nov. 19 article Group backs Navy nurse now under fire, where a number of interested parties have surfaced to defend a Navy officer nurse, “who volunteered to serve in Guantánamo.” But now, based on an “independent ethical decision” the nurse efuses to follow orders to force-feed a terrorist housed at the Guantánamo Bay detention camp.

Does this new bait-and-switch approach while serving in the military give members of our armed forces the right to refuse to follow orders? I wonder what this nurse was expecting to find in the Guantánamo prison camp when he asked for the assignment.
