Dangers on campus

The Florida Legislature’s insane plan to allow open-carry and guns on college campuses is beyond rational belief.

Our son was a sophomore at the University of Florida when an incoherent and drunk fraternity brother viciously attacked him. Unprovoked, this teenager blindsided our son with a head-butt so severe it ripped open his forehead leaving a bloody gash requiring 15 stitches at Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

To this day, the scar between my son’s eyebrows is a reminder of his supposed friend, who was drinking hard liquor to oblivion. There’s already enough alcohol-fueled emotional immaturity on campuses. Can you imagine what could have happened if guns were involved?

L.G. Sheffield,

Fort Lauderdale
