Our anthem

Ann McFeatters’ decrying our national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner, in her Oct. 18 column, Should ‘America the Beautiful’ be our new anthem?, is somewhat offensive to the nation’s fighting men and women and their patriotic supporters.

The Star-Spangled Banner celebrates our war power. This is the prime power that has made us and preserved our nation. When sung, it raises joyful morale in the hearts of all current and former servicemen and servicewomen, and it elevates thankfulness and well-deserved gratitude in all patriotic Americans.
