Cuba’s American cars
Si, I want to return to Havana. As a purser aboard the Yarmouth Castle weekend cruise ship, I went ashore and quenched my thirst at the Hotel Nacional and Tropicana Club.
But now I don’t want to visit clubs, old churches and historic homes, I want the pleasure of seeing those American cars from the ’50s and ’60s on the road as if they belonged there. On TV news the other night, I saw a red Edsel convertible cruising down a Cuban highway. Talk about an anomaly!
Regardless of politics, the old-time mechanics are truly the masters of their craft.
