The right to vote

I had no idea that Republican legislators seeking to deprive citizens of the right to vote were scholars of American history.

For in 1723 the legislators of colonial Virginia, fearing slave insurrections, passed stringent regulations to deter slave conspiracies. Among them was disenfranchising Freedmen.

Now, in states governed by Republicans, who is being targeted for disenfranchisement? Blacks, of course, because they overwhelmingly vote Democratic. Those of any race who have been denied the vote are in essence degraded to noncitizens.
