Light sentence

Re the Sept. 15 article Ex-congressman’s top aide gets probation, fine for election fraud: It’s ironic that the judge stated that he found it “infuriating” the way outsiders think of Miami as a “banana republic” because of all of its fraud and corruption, but then issues a light sentence for the crimes.

Maybe if judges believed their own words and handed out tougher sentences, or at least sentences that were not so light, it might send a message that crime will not be tolerated here and Miami would not be fertile ground for such misdeeds. Corruption is a cancer.
