Teaching equality
Bravo to Miami-Dade Schools chief Alberto Carvalho for establishing new regulations for district contracting.
With $1.2 billion in general obligation bond money, the adoption of inclusion, diversity, local business preference for minorities, women-owned businesses and veterans will level the field so that they get an equal fair opportunity to get work in construction jobs and service contracts.
It’s unfortunate that many of our cities haven’t adopted the county’s model that established these goals to give opportunity to all. Carvalho did a greater service as an educator, leading by example and teaching students what fairness is all about.
