Remembering 9/11

Every year, as another anniversary of 9/11 approaches, I perform a mental review of where I and others were on that fateful day.

I was with my wife in Florida watching events on TV as they unfolded. President George W. Bush was reading My Pet Goat to a grade school class in Florida, following a dinner on Longboat Key the night before with his brother, Gov. Jeb Bush.

Vice President Cheney was in the secured area below the White House with his wife. Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld was at the Pentagon. U.S. Rep. Porter Goss and Sen. Bob Graham, along with Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl, all just back from a congressional junket to Pakistan, were having breakfast with Pakistan’s Intelligence Chief Gen. Mahmood Ahmed, who The Times of India reported had just authorized the last $100,000 payment to the hijackers’ account at SunTrust in Florida.
