Legal immigration
As a young woman living in Jamaica 42 years ago, my dream was to live and work in the United States.
I went to the American Embassy in downtown Kingston and found out all the requirements needed for me to be accepted as a legal immigrant. It took me seven years to get an interview at the embassy and another six months before I was accepted.
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think of trying to come here illegally.
Each day in the media we are exposed to so-called injustices to illegal immigrants.
The United States welcomes legal immigration. Potential immigrants should find out the requirements like I did and work toward it.
