Dirty nukes

In what part of Christine Todd Whitman’s universe is nuclear power a carbon free source of energy? (Put nuclear in the mix, Aug. 17)

In addition to massive amounts of carbon generated during the mining, transportation and refining of uranium, there’s the construction of the massive reactor buildings for a 50-year cycle that will leave the fuel and building contaminated for hundreds of thousands of years.

Gov. Whitman, like all Republicans, is just shilling for the petroleum industry that owns all the uranium.

A truly unlimited source of free energy is available by drilling down into the thermal layers miles below the earth to release the trapped heat.

Once construction is complete it will truly be carbon free, and won't leave chemical waste as in fracking, or nuclear waste for hundreds of thousands of years.
