Unreasonable solution
Re the Aug. 11 article, Air controllers struggle with fatigue, study shows: The FAA has dual missions: enhance private for-profit airlines and ensure air travel safety. These are conflicting missions.
Profits are maximized when regulations are minimized. Inadequate regulations compromise safety. Reason indicates the need for separate agencies, one to promote the airlines and the other to focus solely on safety.
Here’s an example. Miami Tower controllers living in Key Largo had only eight hours to drive home after their evening shift, eat, take a nap and get back at 7 a.m. to check in. The FAA’s solution: increase the turnaround time to nine hours.
