CSX rail proposal

With the ever-present transportation nightmares in Miami-Dade County, Commissioner Esteban Bovo’s proposal to use an existing CSX rail line for commuter trains is the first viable and quick-fix idea proposed in many years.

CSX countered by proposing that the county or state purchase not only the west Miami-Dade route, but its branch to Homestead, as well. These two rail lines in Doral and Kendall/South Dade pass through heavily populated areas much further west than Metrorail or the South Dade Busway.

It would be natural for commuters in these areas to utilize rail service to the airport and downtown.

The original Metrorail plans included branches to Florida International University, out Kendall Drive and down South Dixie Highway to Homestead. Here’s a cheaper alternative. I say, make it happen.
