No Olympic profit
The decision of Boston's mayor not to yield to the demands of the U.S. Olympic Committee is an intelligent one.
The inherent prestige notwithstanding, hosting the Summer Olympic Games can be an extraordinarily high investment that generally doesn't turn a profit for the host city.
A perfect example is Greece and its devastating financial consequences.
