Gov. Rick Scott wasn’t cool

At Wednesday’s debate, Gov. Rick Scott committed a political-gaffe trifecta: It was live. It was a situation any Florida voter could understand. And he gave Charlie Crist’s campaign the generous gift of a visual of Crist alone at the podium ready to debate the issues important to our state.

If Crist emerges victorious, those few minutes will go down in politicking history as the David vs. Goliath moment when $50 million worth of negative ads was taken down by a $20 portable fan. Already, it’s safe to say that $20 was the best money spent this entire campaign season.

People who never talk to me about politics wanted to share a chuckle at the absurdity. Lest there be any confusion: No, Gov. Scott. They are not laughing with you.

I’m looking forward to the last gubernatorial debate next week. Perhaps Crist, who complimented his opponent’s Ebola-preparedness response, can once again show his gracious side by bringing a spare fan — since the heat is definitely on Rick Scott.
