Ross Hancock the better candidate
There are three candidates on the ballot for the Florida House District 114 that comprises segments of Miami, Coral Gables, South Miami, Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay and all of Cutler Bay. The Republican incumbent, Rep. Erik Fresen, recommended by the Herald in 2012, is best known for funding his brother-in-law’s for-profit charter schools with huge sums of public money. Daisy Baez has the endorsement of the Democratic party.
The third candidate, independent Ross Hancock, received 49 percent of the vote in District 114 in 2012. He is a board member of the Sierra Club and an expert on issues concerning threats to Florida’s ecology. He understands what’s wrong: the wasteful test-taking and the harmful diversion of public funds to for-profit charter schools. He’s a friend of working people and the middle class. He is a man of high intellect and unquestioned integrity.
Oran Lindquist, Cutler Bay
