Do not engage Cuba
Reading the July 20th Op-Ed Hope Takes Over Havana, one is to believe that while U.S.-imposed policies “imprisoned the futures” of the Cuban people, it is now a new day.
The authors’ argument blaming the United States for lack of opportunity in Cuba is comical in its ignorance of history and basic economics. Leaving Cuba's 65-year assault on American interests aside, it is the Cuban government that has employed the archaic Marxist model which has only led to famine and genocide throughout the world.
The results of this experiment in Cuba are readily apparent.
As to the “new day” narrative, the authors arrive at their conclusion by citing “countless conversations” with Communist party-approved vendors and polling results, altogether ignoring the basic truth that polling politically repressed people yields politically repressed answers.
