Class-size trickery

In addition to the 2000 election sleight of hand (Jeb’s pretty slick, June 30), another worthy example is from the election two years later when voters passed the class-size amendment and Bush said that he had a “devious plan” for dealing with the result.

Unfortunately, this attitude has infected the Legislature, too, which has undermined two other amendments for which Floridians voted — redistricting and, the most recent, Amendment One. Hopefully, we will establish independent commissions to implement these voter-approved mandates, such as an effort promoted in Arizona and now upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. The less involvement from Tallahassee the better.
