Sex-trafficking victims

Re the June 28 editorial, Giving them shelter: State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle is to be congratulated for her vision and recognition of the lack of shelter and services for sex-trafficked victims 18 and older. Too often, child victims of sex trafficking aren’t identified until they are over 18 and are no longer eligible for most services designed for younger victims.

Kristi House also thanks Gov. Scott for the continued funding for our program, Project GOLD, which is for sex-trafficked victims 18 and younger. Project GOLD is a drop-in center where girls can come for counseling, enrichment programs, education and restoration in a supportive, home-like setting.

Under the leadership of the state attorney and governor, Miami-Dade County is becoming a nationally recognized leader in addressing the crisis of commercially sexually trafficked youth.
