Legislature understood the needs of Florida’s small businesses | Letter

Two years ago this week, our nation largely shut down due to COVID-19. To say we have been through much since then would be an understatement.

As a small business owner, I am thankful for the work the lawmakers in Tallahassee and Washington undertook to help keep my business, and that of others, afloat during the pandemic. There is a need, however, to modernize programs that help businesses.

A report released this week by Goldman Sachs and the Bipartisan Policy Center, “10,000 Small Business Voices,” found that too many small business owners are struggling to retain workers and find reliable access to capital. We need help addressing these issues sensibly and effectively. More than 20 years have passed since Congress reauthorized the Small Business Administration (SBA). Now, Congress must reinvigorate the SBA to help business owners continue to recover and grow.

Let’s heed the lessons learned during the past two years and work together to tackle small business challenges in our modern economy and beyond.
