Care for sick teens

Re the June 14 article Staff disciplined after jailed teen’s death: I remember the Omar Paisley case very well. The Andre Sheffield case is tragic, too.

To prevent such tragedies the state’s penal system needs to change its protocol: Sick detainees should be evaluated immediately by a competent physician or transferred to the nearest emergency room as soon as possible. Time, in trauma cases, is of the essence. A correct diagnosis is mandatory.

Yes, cost will be increased, but what’s a life worth?
