English is our language
I have lived in Miami all my life and come from Spanish-speaking parents. I understand Spanish, but don’t speak it well.
English is my first language, and when I go to any store and the staff talks to me in Spanish, I refuse and request that they speak English. I have been called names because I request English, but my response is always, “How are you going to learn English if you don’t practice?”
So to letter writer Claire Roth who says that she is going to move because she has not learned to speak Spanish, don’t do it. This is the United States, and English is our language.
