Keep toilets open

Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado says he’s willing to fund a test that puts portable toilets downtown for the homeless. Great idea, as long as they are not locked up after 6 p.m. like those in the public parks.

While my wife does yoga, I walk or rollerblade along the waterfront. Recently, I needed the restroom by the Pérez Art Museum Miami at 6:10 p.m. The parking attendant told me they lock the toilets at 6 p.m.

I was told a while back by a park manager that they close the restrooms to avoid homeless people from using them. Are they not human, too?

Our parks are places that families should be able to go and enjoy — and have a place to relieve themselves.
