Lock the door

I have listened to quite a few “remedies” to the intruder issue posed by the Secret Service. As I understand it the intruder ran through the unlocked door of the White House. Has anyone thought to just lock the door? I dare say residents of D.C. all lock their doors when they are home or out. I certainly do in South Florida. Why is the president’s house unlocked? Wouldn’t it be prudent to restrict entry?
