Kudos for Heyman

Miami-Dade Commissioner Sally Heyman’s proposal to decriminalize personal use of marijuana is long overdue.

Ruining the lives of people who simply prefer marijuana, society’s drug of choice, which is known for its benign effects compared to alcohol, is madness. Wasting valuable tax dollars, court time and law-enforcement resources pursuing something so mundane is sheer lunacy.

The next step should be to expunge the records of those who have a “criminal record” as a result of having been arrested under these current archaic laws.

Many young people who would otherwise be employable are trying to find ways to make a living and, yes, pay taxes.
