Tinnitus and July 4th

Tinnitus, commonly known as ringing in the ears, affects more than 50 million people in the United States.

People with the condition hear ringing or a buzz-like sound where no sound is present. It’s also the No. 1 service-related disability of veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

As July 4 approaches, there is a segment of the population dreading the loud crackle of fireworks. To help those who suffer from this condition, I recently formed the Miami Tinnitus Support Group to bring educational materials, the latest research and featured clinical speakers about tinnitus-related topics to those afflicted.

I have had tinnitus for more than four years and know how life-changing it can be.

Join us from 6:30-8:30 p.m. every third Wednesday of the month at the Baptist Health Resource Center, 9915 NW 41 St., Doral.
